The Hazardous Waste Compactor

The RotoPac HazPac hazardous Waste Compactor was designed to accommodate the compaction of certain types of solid hazardous waste materials. This compactor has a small footprint, high compaction, ease of use and its unique ability to compact waste into bulk bags or into hazardous waste boxes makes this hazardous waste compactor ideal for compacting hazardous waste for transporting.

Packing groups are used for the purpose of determining the degree of protective packaging required for dangerous goods during transportation. Solid hazardous waste falls into one of three packing groups (I, II and III) which indicate the degree of danger presented by the material as great, medium or minor, respectively. The Department of Transportation has listed many such hazardous materials on their website www.gpoaccess.gov/ecfr.

 Features:

The RotoPac HazPac compactor handles the compaction of hazardous waste of all three groups into either bulk bags or waste boxes. The RotoPac HazPac is configured somewhat differently for handling each type of container.

The advantage of compacting the hazardous material into either bags or tri-wall boxes is obvious in that the RotoPac HazPac puts 6 times the amount of waste in each container when compared to contents without mechanical compaction. However, RotoPac HazPac is customized differently for different containers.

The modifications to the standard RotoPac to accommodate the bulk bag are minor if a bag is used that is greater in both width and depth than 41 inches. See the picture below where an empty bulk bag is placed in the RotoPac. When compacting the bag shield, the drum descends into the bag where the bag shield protects the bag from bursting under the pressure from the drum’s compacting. The bag can be placed on a pallet or sit on the floor. In either case the filled bag is removed by a forklift.

Whether you use the bags or the boxes, your savings can exceed $2,000 per month because of the high compaction this hazardous waste compactor generates. Also, because of the small footprint RotoPac HazPac it can be placed close to the source hazardous material generation, saving travel time and increasing efficiency. RotoPac BlastPac can be modified to meet the specifications of the RotoPac HazPac for hazardous environments.

Ideal areas for RotoPac HazPac placement:

  • Large paint shops such as Navy and aerospace firms
  • Chemical plants
  • Battery manufacturers
  • Any facilities with large volumes of type I, II, or III hazardous waste materials
