 RotoPac Overview

Product Description

The ingenious design and exceptional power of the KenBay waste compactor can compact the entire contents of a traditional waste dumpster into one polyethylene bag. KenBay manufactures and sells the RotoPac Industrial Waste Compactor. It is the original industrial rotary arm compactor offering the maximum compaction (at least 6 times) with a minimum footprint (4' x 5'). Rotary arm compaction continually extracts air from waste through the use of a high torque rotating and sweeping drum.  It is the compactor of choice for waste removal and recycling of large volumes of plastic and cardboard where space is limited and high compaction is required. For example, on assembly lines, oilrigs, ocean vessels, factory floors, high security areas, bakeries, distribution centers, printing and food processing operations. The RotoPac, for its various applications, is made of the highest quality stainless steel with waterproof components, or less expensive stainless steel with wash down features, or explosion proof features or powder coated painted steel ones for general use. Waste can be input into the RotoPac by conveyor, pneumatically, manually or through a chute.

Product Features and Advantages over other compactors and balers

The RotoPac has been designed for simplicity and durability with many safety features. It is portable, easy to use and by merely connecting to any industrial electrical source it is operational within minutes. Thousands are being used worldwide, many after 15 years of use, some of which are used 24/7. Maintenance and operational costs are minimal. The RotoPac's major advantage over more traditional compactors is its high compaction (at least 6 times) and small footprint (4’ x 5’). These features enable users to reduce 1) labor costs in getting waste to the compactor, 2) accidents through minimum forklift traffic and not having to break down boxes, and 3) hauling costs with significant volume reductions.

RotoPac Applications

The RotoPac is being used for compacting trash, recycling cardboard boxes and plastics of all kinds. The trash applications vary from compacting 50# ingredient bags, electronic components, expired medicines, metal shavings to improperly baked bread.

Production workers typically extract parts to be assembled at the beginning of an assembly line and then throw the empty boxes and/or packing materials into a receptacle. If the receptacle is a RotoPac, it will be the last time anyone has to handle the waste. Compacting waste at its source saved valuable floor space, reduces labor and hauling costs, and improves the cleanliness of your workspace.

General Trash: When trash is being removed from a facility, the initial receptacle in which it is placed is often a gaylord. The trash is likely handled again, maybe twice, before it is placed in a dumpster or a compactor outside. This can dramatically add to labor costs.  The RotoPac, because of its small footprint (4’x5’), can sit at the source of the waste, continuously compacting waste materials, achieving on average a compaction ratio of 6 to 1.

Cardboard and Paper: When the waste is cardboard boxes, they either have to be broken down or at a minimum carted to a baler somewhere else in the facility. Unlike balers that require special training to operate, the RotoPac is simple to use: just throw the boxes in, push a button and walk away. It’s just that easy. Not having to break down boxes saves time, labor and prevents accidents. Carting waste around on the factory floor, creating extra forklift traffic, is thus significantly reduced. The net result is a cleaner, safer plant floor.

Plastic: The procedure for plastic is similar to cardboard and paper. The RotoPac is especially effective in compacting plastic materials. It can make the difficult and time consuming task of disposing of plastic wrap discarded from packages into an easy continuous process.

Getting Waste into The RotoPac

Not only does the RotoPac serve numerous companies in disparate applications, but because of the unique features of this compactor, it can accept most types of waste coming to it by various means.

1.   Manual Feed Through the Loading Door

The RotoPac has three modes of activation: 1) push the run button and compaction will start and continue for 10 minutes or for whatever time it is preset (it can vary from 1 to 12 minutes), 2) with an auto-restart kit installed, the RotoPac can be set to automatically engage for a preset time, e.g., 5 minutes and will rest for a preset time, 3) with heavy continuous waste, users engage the RotoPac continuously. This allows users to throw waste in the loading door while other waste may be conveyed in or blown in at the same time.

2.   From a Conveyor Belt

The RotoPac’s simplicity and durability enables it to continuously accept waste, including recyclable materials, through the top opening via a conveyor. Since the RotoPac is quiet (no louder than a vacuum cleaner) and small (footprint of 4’x5’), it can sit close to the source of the waste and yet saves space that gaylords, bins and dumpsters were occupying.

3.   Through Pneumatic Systems

Users blow plastic and/or paper trim into the RotoPac from machines such as saddle stitchers and trimmers. Its small size allows it to sit near waste generators and eliminates need for a pneumatic system.  However, the RotoPac is also used to accept waste (trim) via a pneumatic system because of its continuous compacting capability. The RotoPac is a much less costly solution in either case than that of alternatives.

4.   Gravity Feed Through a Chute

Many companies have the RotoPac located on the plant floor and drop waste into a chute from an upper floor while at the same time having access to the RotoPac on the plant floor. With an additional set of controls waste can be placed into the RotoPac from the upper floor and from the main floor at the same time. Again, its small size and quiet operation makes it the most cost effective compactor used in this manner.
