Filenes Department Stores Distribution Center-
Clothes that are shipped in from various manufactures to this CT
based distribution center are unpackaged and need to be distributed
to Filenes New England based stores.
The clothes are packaged in bulk in very large plastic bags
with similar strength to the plastic bags dry cleaning is generally
returned in. Filenes
learned that if they could somehow compact this plastic, there was a
market for it. Using
the Clydesdale they were able to compact the plastic into 450 lb.
bales that could be stacked and shipped in a container to be
recycled. Not only are they making money on this plastic but also it
has eliminated the manual labor of stuffing it into huge canvas bags
to be thrown away.
Cott - Since 2002, Cott Beverages, the world’s largest
retailer-brand soft drink supplier, has operated a full-line
manufacturing and distribution facility, overrun by plastic wrap,
assorted waste collection bins and other clutter, Cott brought the
Clydesdale to the production floor, right at the source of the
waste, and set the machine on continual compaction. “Now, the
forklift operators simply put the plastic in the Clydesdale and
remove the bag for recycling when it is full,” production
Supervisor Don Morgan says.
Konica Minolta - The Distribution Center of this camera giant had a copier packing
problem that was growing out of hand. A large dumpster occupied an
entire shipping bay, causing the door to be left open all year
round. Warehouse
& Facilities Manager Jeff Gsell brought in the Clydesdale to
free up a shipping bay (allowing it to be available for deliveries),
reduce labor costs and even cut cooling and heating costs.
